Guede Alpha Barrel Oak Bread Knife "Franz Gude
The Guede Alpha Barrel Oak Bread Knife "Franz Gude" is a special bread knife is dedicated to Franz Guede, the inventor of the serrated bread knife. The serrated edge, a special blade with sharp teeth which is used in all of today’s bread knives, was originally developed by Franz Guede in the 30ies and considerably increased the cutting ability and durability of bread knives. Based on the original design it features a 45cm long blade, which is most certainly sufficiently long enough to slice proper breads, without crushing them when they are still fresh from the oven. With its weight of 380 grams it is one of the heavyweights among the Guede knives. Its high quality design has been crowned by several awards: the Guede Bread Knife, also known as the "original Bread Saw" won Test Magazin’s ‘Sehr Gut’ verdict, the Reddot Design Award and an excellent review by Emporio Test Magazine.
Like all other pieces in the Alpha Barrel Oak series, the Franz Guede Bread Knife is hand forged from a single piece of corrosion-resistant chrome molybdenum vanadium knife steel and is then further perfected in more than 40 mostly manual process steps. Created for wine lovers and cooking enthusiasts, the handle grips are crafted from seasoned oak taken from wine barrels over eighty years old resulting in a historical wooden handle that is both beautiful and indestructible. Because the stainless steel blade is ice-hardened and hand sharpened, the knife is not dishwasher safe. The Franz Guede Bread Knife is also available with other types of wooden handles.
Guede is known for forging top quality knives in small lots in the German city of Solingen, following the traditions of the old art of making knives that have given Solingen its world renowned reputation. Guede knives have won numerous design awards and are loved by chefs and knife aficionados all over the world.
